How To Find Your Emotional Blocks To Weight Loss

There’s one thing true for lasting weight loss and that is to find your emotional blocks to weight loss and shift them.

I spent over 10 years reading & learning about the “how to” of weight loss. In the beginning I did what every girl does and follow all the fad diets and exercised A LOT. But despite putting in much much more effort than I do today, I didn’t have the body I desired.

You see in order for me to apply any weight loss strategy or even lose weight without trying I had to change my relationship with food and work on the deeper reasons why I was turning to food. I had to do the mindset work on a deeper level.

Whether or not a particular weight loss strategy works for you, actually depends on your mindset. I can tell you now that nothing worked for me until I worked on the emotional aspect of weight loss. So that’s why I’m here to share my knowledge with you because I have managed to lose 30 pounds and keep it off for around three years now!

I know that you are here reading this for a reason and it’s because you need to do the deeper work around your mindset.

The truth is that the reason why you sabotage your weight loss is because if you didn’t have your weight to worry about, you would worry about things that hurt your ego more than your physical appearance or weight. Your mind has created a new problem i.e your weight issue because it creates less pain that the real problems underneath. However, as clever as your mind is, realistically you now have the additional problem, the weight. The key to getting rid of the weight is to get more comfortable with dealing with your emotional issues that have been repressed for so long.

Put your hand on your heart and ask yourself the following questions. It would help if you have a journal handy and write down without a filter. Write down the first things that come to mind, don’t worry about how silly it is.

  1. Why are you heavier than you wish to be?

  2. What prevents you from losing weight?

  3. Do you think it’s possible for you to lose weight and maintain it?

  4. What would happen if you finally lost the weight? How would that change your life (Note: go deeper – would people get jealous? Would you attract more attention? Would you have to feel your feelings?

The answers that you wrote down really give you insight on your limiting beliefs. The way our subconscious minds work is that if we believe something we will literally experience it in our reality. So therefore if you have a belief that weight loss isn’t possible for you, then that will be the reality you will experience.

From a habitual point of view we can assess the exact reasons why our emotions block our ability to lose weight through our intake of food. There are emotional reasons why we sabotage our best eating efforts. Food serves a purpose for us, it fills a void we aren’t able to fill.

Here are a list of some of the reasons why you may overeat or hold onto weight:

Safety

Security

Unmet Needs

Self-doubts

Dissatisfaction with life

Boredom

You feel empty

You feel taken advantage of

You lack the ability to assert yourself

Stress

The Need For Constant Stimulation

Procrastination

Avoiding a particular situation

Social Anxiety

We feel powerless in dealing with the above reasons or whatever reason is true for you and so your body has learnt to eat as a way to cope. This becomes an unconscious process whereby you only feel the hunger and you may not be aware that it is not genuine hunger, but that it’s fake hunger driven by your emotions.

The good news is that we have the power to change our minds.

The Law of Attraction plays a role with every part of our life, and our weight is no exception. So when I first started my weight loss journey on a deeper level I let my issues become my identity, I let my “blocks” be the reason why I couldn’t achieve my goals.

So as important as it is to find your limiting beliefs, your thought patterns, your feelings that are blocking your weight it’s important to constantly shift them and be content with the fact that you will always have stuff to work on.

No-one is perfect and starting to accept yourself is one step closer to a higher version of yourself.
